The Secretary of Saki West Local Government Area of Oyo State, Hon. Kolade Felix Ojo, has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.
The decision, announced on Tuesday, comes barely 72 hours after Ojo reportedly attended the gubernatorial declaration of Ibadan-based broadcaster and politician, Mr. Abdulrahman Oriyomi Hamzat.
Saki West Local Government is one of the councils in the Oke Ogun geopolitical zone of the state.
Hamzat, the proprietor of Agidigbo 88.7 FM, formally declared his intention to contest the 2023 Oyo State governorship election on the platform of the Accord Party on Saturday. Hon. Kolade Felix Ojo, who also doubles as the Political Head of Asabari Local Council Development Area, was said to be among those present at the event.
Sources within the local government revealed that Ojo’s participation in the declaration triggered his removal from office.
However, the Chairman of Saki West Local Government, Hon. Gbenga Akinola, attributed the sack to administrative restructuring rather than political reasons.
In a statement obtained on Tuesday evening, Akinola said the decision was aimed at repositioning the council for improved performance.
“The Executive Chairman of Saki West Local Government, Hon. Gbenga Akinola, has approved the relief of the Secretary of the Local Government, Hon. Kolade Felix Ojo, from his post with immediate effect,” the statement read.
“This decision is part of ongoing efforts to reposition the Local Government for greater efficiency, accountability, and effective service delivery to the people of Saki West.”
As of the time of filing this report, Hon. Ojo had yet to publicly react to the development.
