Osogbo — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced March 11, 2026, as the official start date for political campaigns ahead of the upcoming Osun State governorship election.
The announcement was made by the Osun INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, during an expanded stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo on Monday, marking the commencement of the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
Dr. Agboke assured that the campaign timeline and protocols would be formally communicated to political parties in accordance with the Electoral Act.
“By God’s grace, full campaign activities will commence on March 11, 2026. We will still meet with stakeholders, especially political parties, to brief them appropriately,” he said.
He added that INEC would roll out guidelines to ensure proper conduct of political parties throughout the campaign period.
Highlighting the importance of collaboration, Dr. Agboke stressed that the success of the first phase of CVR was due to strong cooperation between INEC and stakeholders. The same approach will guide the second phase to consolidate earlier gains.
To improve accessibility for voters, the Commission plans to rotate voter registration equipment across communities, allowing residents to register conveniently. “The stakeholders have expressed readiness to participate and cooperate, which will ensure the success of the exercise,” Agboke concluded.
