ABUJA — Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that his political camp will not repeat what he described as a “leadership mistake” in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wike made the statement during a thank-you visit to the people of Khana in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he commended them for their loyalty, courage and unwavering support during the 2023 general elections.
The former Rivers State governor said leadership must reflect the collective will of the people, not personal ambitions, stressing that lessons had been learnt from past decisions at the state level.
“We will not make the same mistake again at the state level in 2027. We will talk about it when the time comes. Just follow your leaders. Anywhere you see them going, that is where we are going,” Wike said.
He explained that the visit was not politically motivated but meant to appreciate the people of Khana for standing firmly with him and President Bola Tinubu during a period he described as turbulent.
According to Wike, the Khana people took a major political risk by supporting Tinubu when many others were hesitant, adding that their decision was already yielding tangible benefits.
“During the turbulent period, Khana stood with us. Today, you can see the benefits — good roads, the University of Environment, and several other projects, all because of the President’s love. So many appointments have come to Ogoniland, and more are on the way,” he said.
Wike also noted a shift in political thinking in Rivers State, saying voters would no longer be guided strictly by party affiliation but by family ties, loyalty and commitment to development.
Earlier, speaking at the event, Mr Dumnamene Dekor praised Wike and President Tinubu for what he described as the transformation of Ogoniland into “the pride of the nation.”
“We are proud to be associated with you. Whatever you ask us to do, we will do; wherever you ask us to go, we will go,” Dekor said.
Also speaking on behalf of women in the area, Mrs Barile Nwakoh, APC Khana 1 State Constituency, thanked Wike for remembering the people of Khana, attributing his growing influence in Rivers State to his goodwill, sincerity and love for the people.
“We are ready to work for Tinubu. Please tell Mr President that we are here,” Nwakoh said.
