The wife of the 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Mrs. Lilian Adebayo, has expressed confidence that the party will unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections if Nigerians are “honest with themselves.”
Mrs. Adebayo stated this on Wednesday during an interview with journalists after an event in Abuja.
She said the SDP had moved past its internal crisis following the expulsion of the party’s former national chairman, Shehu Gabam, and some other executives.
According to her, Nigerians have endured enough hardship under the APC administration and should use the 2027 polls to make a change.
“There is always a crisis in every party; the SDP has been able to handle its own. The problems in the party have been resolved,” she said.
“He (her husband) has a great chance of winning the election if Nigerians are honest with themselves. If Nigerians think that the ones they consistently vote for would move the country forward, they live in denial.”
Recall that the SDP recently expelled Gabam and some other party officials.
The party’s state chairmen had also urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the police to investigate Gabam over alleged misappropriation of party funds.
