The Abuja-based Court of Appeal has ruled that the Zamfara State governorship election is inconclusive. The election has been proclaimed as won by Dauda Lawal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Bello Matawalle, the candidate for governor from the All Progressives Congress (APC), had appealed the results of the March 18 governorship election to the tribunal; however, his plea was denied due to lack of merit.
The Court of Appeal ruled that the poll was inconclusive and directed INEC to conduct new elections in three local governments in its ruling on Thursday. Also, the three-person panel of justices declared Lawal’s victory to be void and mandated that three local government districts hold new elections.
The LGAs that are impacted are Bukuyun, Birnin Magaji, and Maradun.
In the primary ruling, which Justice Sybil Nwaka read, the court decided that INEC had erred in compiling the governorship election results by using data from its IReV platform.
