Doctor Angela Aburime-Asom has expressed interest in running for governor of South-South Nigeria’s Edo State on the Labour Party, LP platform. Leading LP leaders in the state approved Aburime-Asom to run for the party’s governorship ticket, making her the third female member to do so.
As for the candidates, Kelly Ogbaloi, the party’s state chairman, has assured them of an even playing field.
The doctor Dr. Aburime-Asom comes from the Edo Central senatorial district, which is favored to produce the state’s next governor.
As Ogbaloi received Aburime-Asom and her supporters, he reiterated the party’s preparedness to unseat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and assume power the next year.
Speaking to reporters, Aburime-Asom said she was happy with the red-carpet treatment she and her entourage received from the LP state executive. She also mentioned that the state party hierarchy had received and accepted her letter of intent.
She said that nothing could stop her from winning the primaries because the party’s most powerful members had given her permission to run for governor.
Aburime-Asom said, “I am excited with the reception I got at the party secretariat. It shows that the party is the one to beat next year. I have submitted my letter of intent and hopefully, I will win the primaries and be the party’s flag bearer at the election.”
