Former Senator Ben Murray-Bruce urged petitioners on Wednesday to accept the presidential election tribunal’s decision. The tribunal upheld President Bola Tinubu’s election in the February 25 election on Wednesday.
The panel decided that the petitions brought by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar, and Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi were “all devoid of merit.”
Murray-Bruce implored petitioners to consider national interest rather than self-interest in a post on his X page.
“Once elections have been held and a winner is announced, we must follow the Jonathan doctrine and accept the people’s verdict in the interest of democracy and the nation,” he stated.
“Our elections do not have to be decided in court. But now that we’ve arrived at this point and the courts have spoken, let us put the national interest ahead of self-interest, accept the judgment, and move on so that the nation can progress.
“Bola Ahmed Tinubu is Nigeria’s duly elected and undisputed President, and this judgment should put all questions and doubts to rest.”
“I applaud the judges of the presidential election petition court for doing an outstanding job in a difficult situation.” “Democracy triumphed.”
Bruce urged followers of all political parties to be wary of recent events on the continent and work to keep the country peaceful.
